I ran a 5K this morning! :) I always mix up my routes on my morning runs because I can't take too much repitition, so I never know how far I'm running until I map my run later. I ran on a lot of busy streets today, so that really helped keep me motivated. When I mapped my run later, it was 3.12 and I did it in 32:20. Yay!
I decided to mix things up today and took a walk at noon with Ian and Jude eating their lunch in the stroller while Dax had his lunch date with Daddy at the park. It was so cute because Ian kept saying to me as we walked, "This is a fun lunch date, Mommy!" :)
I had a terrible migraine last night and woke up with an unhappy stomach this morning. I really didn't feel like running today but my desire to get three runs in this week is strong. I hopped on the treadmill anyway and managed to squeak out 2.55 miles. I spent probably 10 minutes of that time running at a 6.2mph pace. So even though my overall pace was near a 12 min mile I feel like I pushed myself with those faster intervals.
I had an opportunity to represent the community blood bank by sharing Jack's story tonight. They were honoring his blood donor. The location was actually at a church just a few blocks from our house so I walked. It wasn't necessarily a calorie burning walk, but my heart was pounding with nerves. When I saw this sign as I walked through the doors my heart melted. Its been a while since I've talked about that experience and it brought back a lot of emotions. Even though it was dark by the time I was done I was very thankful for the walk home.
We got the trailer hooked up on my bike now so we all went for a ride this afternoon. We started out at Dead Man's run and got on the Mopac a ways for a total of 3 miles. I was pretty impressed with the kids and how well they did!
Back at the morning runs this week! My alarm clock malfunctioned but luckily I still woke up in enough time to sneak in a 30 minute run and a shower before Craig had to get ready for work! It was a good way to start off my Monday, but it was COLD!!!
Wow. I haven't been excited about running since MAY! So when I had the urge to run today I knew I needed to go with it! I hit the treadmill and went 3 miles in 31:47. Whew, it felt great! My new Shuffle and music definitely helped with the motivation!
I wish I had a picture for today. But let's just say I was lookin' pretty good in my 80's sweatpants running laps around the rest of my family as they walked the trail at Mahoney park. Hehe. At least they all got a good chuckle! :)
Thanks to Greg coming down with a case of cabin fever this evening, we headed out to Platte River SP. Since I am feeling stuck-in-a-rut with exercise it was a great opportunity to get 30 minutes done in a new way. So...off I went climbing up & down the 85 foot tall tower followed by a nice walk through the woods with the family. And since the kids are so stinkin' cute I couldn't resist sharing a picture of them at the top of the tower. Where Jack said, "We should go down, it doesn't really feel safe up here!"
We are so hardcore, running in the rain! :) Even though I hated (you should have heard me complain to Greg as I rolled out of bed) getting up early I'm so glad to have my 30 minutes out of the way. I really need to get some music on my Shuffle! I was amazed at how much I picked up my pace when I had a good song to listen to!
Greg and I took off around 6pm to run some errands (without kids, yipeee). As we pulled into Target we noticed the skating rink across the street had $2 skating on Wednesday nights! I casually said, "we should go!" not really meaning it. Then the idea started to brew and next thing you know we were rolling around the rink. It was so much fun! Talk about a blast from the past! And what a great way to get my exercise in for the day!
We were up & at it early this morning to watch Greg do a triathlon. It was so cold (50 degrees!) but still so much fun. I just love the race atmosphere. All the positive energy is amazing! I'm so proud of Greg!!! I got my 30 minutes in during the kids naps...which was way less exciting than his race. ;)
I woke up on my own before my alarm this morning, so I had no excuse not to get up and go for a run! Once I got out the door, I realized I didn't have my watch and my MP3 player was dead. So, I ran in the quiet alone with my thoughts and the morning sky and didn't worry about my time or distance. I thought it would be tough because music is so motivating for me, but it was actually a nice change once I got past the first five minutes!
After a morning on my feet with Jude in the Ergo making applesauce with you, my back was so tired and I thought I would just be lazy while the boys napped. But out of nowhere came some motivation. :) Back to 30 Day Shred and a walk on the treadmill. I think it was the right move...my back felt better when I was done!
Well, I was planning on a run outside again this morning, but it was WINDY!! So, to the treadmill I went...it's been awhile since I've run on the treadmill...it was all I could do to get 2.25 miles in total (walking and running). Ugh!! I think I might have rather taken a stick upside my head while I was running outside in the wind!! I hope the weather cooperates better on Friday morning!!
In honor of The Biggest Loser starting next Tuesday (yay!), I decided to break out my Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD. Ugh! 20 minutes with Jillian made me sweat like I ran for 30 minutes. No worries, I still got my 30 minutes in by going for a walk with the boys!
I'm feeling very proud of myself for getting out of bed on a MONDAY for a morning run! I think the best part of having my 30 minutes out of the way is that I get naptime to do whatever I need to or want to!! I couldn't bring myself to make two laps around the park again...it's just too monotonous! I made sure to stretch more before I started running...I think that helped me feel a little less concrete-like! I did 2.88 miles in 30:58 (a 10:45 pace)...better than Friday! Yay!! :)
Making a very last minute decision Greg decided to do the Buffalo Run with his brother this morning. You know, the one in Pioneers Park with the killer hills. The one you mentioned but I couldn't even think about because of those killer hills. Yeah. That one. And he did amazing, without even training or being able to tell you the last time he went for a run! It's a good thing I love him. :) But, it was fun to be around that great, positive race atmosphere. Very inspiring! Helped me think about what I want from the rest of this challenge and sort of lit a little spark inside. I think I may have a few more miles left in me. Now if only I could find my MP3 player!
I had a feeling this day was going to get busy and 30 minutes would be tough to sneak in, so my two youngest joined me (in the double jogging stroller) and I went for a walk in the morning with Noel. When we were driving home from the zoo this evening (late for bedtime), I panicked that I still had to get 30 minutes in and then remembered my very wise decision from the morning! ;)
Nora asked me to go on a walk with her while the rest of the gang got ready for a camp fire. The two of us took off down the road, hand in hand. As we walked she said, "Oh great, now we can talk about stuff Mommy!" When I asked her what she wanted to talk about she said,
Phew! Glad to have that run done and out of the way! My feet felt like bricks this morning; no, actually my whole body felt like a slab of concrete! The weather and temperature were perfect (for me) but it was early and my body was rebelling. I had to really, really push myself to keep going today...lots of mentally convincing myself that I could do it. I made it two laps around the park at an 11:12 pace with one quick walk break between laps. It can only get easier, right?!?!
Well, we got little Nora's bike tire fixed yesterday. So this afternoon the kids were more than happy to go for a bike ride. They cruised ahead while Greg, Lexi & I brought up the rear on foot. I'm pretty content with walking right now, but I'm kind of feeling like maybe I need to motivate myself with the Couch to 5K program again. I'm definitely not in the same running shape that I was in March. At this point I'm pretty sure I'd be happy not running another race for the rest of the year. But...I really don't want to fizzle out on the challenge now. I want to end with gusto. We shall see how much motivation I can muster between homeschool, unpacking, and life in general!
Thanks for helping me get my 30 minutes done at out of the way early today! It sure felt like the odds were stacked against me this morning with a headache and not being able to find my MP3 player or a jacket that fit me. It was good to be with you though, and hopefully some of your motivation to run will rub off on me!
Wow! Day 250...we're moving right along!! Jude and I went for an early morning walk again this morning...he's becoming quite the walking partner. :) He is sleeping much better the past few nights (I hope I didn't just jinx myself!), so I'm finally getting a decent night's rest! Now is the time for me to get into morning exercise before I get too used to sleeping until 6:30 or 7 without interruptions from kids!! I've always said I wanted to be a morning runner, so I think this is the time to try it out. See you tomorrow morning for a run!!! :)
Jude was up from his nap earlier than his bros so I took him out for a walk since Craig was home! Oh, how I love me a three-day weekend!! It's been a good one...productive yet relaxing! I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend with your fam too!!
It was a different day around here and our kids didn't get their regularly scheduled naps. Oh man, were they ever bouncing off the walls by mid-afternoon! We decided to get some of that crazy energy out on a walk. I am pretty sure they ran 2 miles! Greg and I walked and we had a hard time keeping up with them. They crack me up!
I love me some Jimmy John's and I love spending time with you and your sweet boys! Thanks for getting us outta this box filled house. I'm sad we couldn't walk with you, but the kids and I had a nice walk through the neighborhood later so I'd call it a good day!
No, thank you!! :) I'm glad we were able to get out and enjoy the nice cool evening and chit chat as we burned some calories! It was fun to talk about what next year's challenge might be...stay tuned everyone...looks like Mamas on the Run is gonna be back in 2011! ;)
