Day 304

I got on the treadmill during the boys' naptime determined to do a run, but a minute into it I was bored. ;) I decided to try out one of the "Performance Workouts" instead. Oh man, that was no joke!!! Yikes! I am not good at running on inclines...I think it'll be awhile before I attempt one of those again!! And then there was the bonus of walking around Trick or Treating...too bad all those calories will be going right back on with all this candy in my house!!!! ;) Happy Halloween!

day 304

Yay! I'm home...and oh so sleepy. I went for a quick walk/run with the kids. It was freezing outside, which is what made us turn our walk into a run! Looking forward to trick or treating tonight! Happy Halloween!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 303

I was all snuggled up on the couch with my favorite blanket watching the Husker game when I decided that if I'm going to be in the house watching the game on this beautiful day anyway, I should get my 30 minutes out of the way. So I hopped on the treadmill. The team looked so much better this week...they motivated me to keep on moving. :)

day 303

I'm stuck at the lab today for my medical study. They really want us to be "couch potatoes" while we're here. On top of that, the medicine is not making me feel so great, so I just snuck in some walking in the courtyard. It was great to get out of the facility and get fresh air. A person can go crazy stuck inside that place!
Happy trails,
Jessy

day 302

I'm doing a medical research study and tonight is my check-in. The requirements (beginning on Wednesday, actually) were that I'm not supposed to do any heavy exercising. Not exactly sure what that means, but to be on the safe side I just went for a slow walk with the kids. I did cheat a little bit with kickboxing on Wednesday so I hope that doesn't come back to bite me! :)
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 302

Despite the wind, the temperature was much warmer today, so I decided to take advantage of it. The boys and I had an early lunch and then headed out for a good walk/bike ride around the park!

Thursday, October 28, 2010

day 301

Another day of walking & enjoying the fall weather.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 301

Craig has been running on our treadmill, and the last couple days he's been excited about his progress. So, what can I say? He's kinda motivating! :) So, back to the treadmill for me today during naptime. Today I did 2.5 miles in 24:45!

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

day 300

Wow! Only 65 days to go! Woohoo! We spent 5 hours walking around the Omaha Zoo today. I had forgotten how great that zoo is. Not to mention how tired my feet & legs were when we got home. After a quick supper I headed out for another kickboxing class. Pretty sure I'll be feeling it tomorrow!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 300!!!

65 more days and counting...
I ran today...2.5 miles in 25:21! Running was the last thing I wanted to do, but I needed it mentally and physically!

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Day 299

Given the amount of Halloween candy I've already partaken of, I should have run today! But starting a new book while I walked on the treadmill sounded like a way better idea!!!! Maybe I'll run tomorrow!?!?

day 299

It was chilly this morning, but the kids needed a break from school so we bundled up. After running up & down the street a few times we went for a walk. We were all much happier (and able to focus better) when we got back.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Monday, October 25, 2010

day 298

Ha! I'd say we definitely get an 'A' for effort today! :) It was great to catch up a bit in between wrangling all our crazy kiddos! :)
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 298

It was so nice to get out for a walk with you...now, one of these times we should do it without the kids so we can actually have an un-interrupted conversation! ;)

Sunday, October 24, 2010

day 297

Well, around 6pm I still hadn't gotten my 30 minutes in so Greg suggested I walk to HyVee and get a Redbox movie. I was a little skeptical at first, thinking it was too far. But off I went and throughly enjoyed it! Just like when I ran to the hardware store for a bathtub plug, it's great to do errands on foot vs. driving! The weather was perfect and it was good to have some time alone to think. Unfortunately I ended up getting a movie we've already seen! I'm a dork! But at least I got my walk done! :)
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 297

It's been one week since my 5K! I decided it was time to get out for a run. It was my ideal running weather and the Fall colors are still awesome, but my body rebelled the whole way! I can't believe what a difference a week makes! I made it 1.93 miles in 20:17, but I felt slow and pathetic the whole way. But hey, a run is a run! Now I just need to find some motivation to keep running! :)

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Day 296

What a beautiful day this ended up being...I'm thinking there won't be many more! We all went out for a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the colors. Unfortunately, that's not going to last much longer either...why does Fall have to be so short?!?!

day 296

Today was beautiful! The kids and I headed over to Woods park to enjoy the fresh air & sunshine. There's a nice trail and sculptures that go around the park so after they got tired of playing we walked around the trail. So thankful for another gorgeous fall day! Oh, and I found a $20 bill on the sidewalk! Yay!
Happy trails,
Jessy
Oh yes, I forgot to mention our 2 mile walk through Wilderness park after naps!

Friday, October 22, 2010

day 295

Wowee! I am really feeling it today. Why am I more sore today (from kickboxing) than I was yesterday. Weird. I thought about running, but based on how I was feeling that didn't happen. Did have a good, heart-rate elevating walk though! Hopefully that will work out some of these kinks!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 295

I wanted my 30 minutes out of the way this morning, but a week's worth of laying around in bed until 7:00 a.m. has made me lazy! I went downstairs to the treadmill and just a 3.0 felt fast...ugh! Dax and Ian came downstairs about 10 minutes into my uneventful, S.L.O.W. walk and kicked it up a notch. Those little guys are Nazis for trainers! ;) They had me going at a 12 incline and 9 MPH (not at the same time!!!). Sure mixed things up..don't worry, I had to walk at 1 MPH a couple times too...ha! It was so cute because when I was running at a 9 (which was insane), Ian said, "Mommy, your feet look like rollerskates when you run that fast!" Too cute! Happy Friday!

Thursday, October 21, 2010

day 294

Had a great walk this afternoon. I'm not as sore from kickboxing as I thought I would be today.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 294

I got on the treadmill AGAIN during naptime. I thought about running, but I got 5 minutes into a run and I just wasn't feelin' it! So, another walk. I need my motivation back!

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Day 293

It was a beautiful morning for a walk with our awesome neighbors!!

day 293

I headed out for a run this afternoon. It felt great to be outside again. For whatever reason I've been stuck on the treadmill lately and that was getting old. Not to mention winter is coming and I know there will be plenty of (too many) treadmill days in my future. While I was out I ran past Ace Hardware and picked up a plug for the bath tub. Kinda fun to get an errand done while I was running. I felt super accomplished! :)
I felt so motivated after my run I decided to check out our old stomping grounds for a kickboxing class tonight. Oh. My. Gravy! That was a tough workout. I forgot how motivating and empowering kickboxing is! I'm looking forward to doing that on a more regular basis to hopefully round out all the running/walking we've been doing!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

day 292

Another day of crunching through the leaves! I love experiencing a true fall season again!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 292

Another naptime treadmill walk...sure wish I had a good book!

Monday, October 18, 2010

day 291

I ran on the treadmill while Greg rode his bike on the trainer beside me. It was nice to have the company! Made it 2.52 miles.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 291

I caught up on some online t.v. while I walked on the treadmill during naptime!

Sunday, October 17, 2010

day 290

You did an amazing job, friend! It was so great to watch you run and accomplish your PR! I kinda wished I had run with you, but I knew that mentally & physically I just wasn't in a place to do that. It has been interesting to see how this challenge has taken us in the same direction, towards a healthier lifestyle and, at the same time taken us each on our own journey. I was more than happy to spend my 30 minutes walking around the capitol anticipating your return! Once again, I am super impressed, inspired, motivated by you!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 290

Well, my 5th 5K was my charm! I really wanted my PR, which meant I needed to beat 32:25. I was pretty sure I could do that, but I was pleasantly surprised to beat it by more than a minute!
My official time was 31:14!
Thanks again for being there to cheer me on, friend!! You're awesome!
I'll let you post pics on here for me...thanks for that too! :)
Only 75 more days left in this year...

Day 289

ANOTHER beautiful Fall day. Ian, Jude and I went for a walk during halftime of the sad Nebraska vs. Texas game. Congratulations, by the way. ;) I'm actually feeling pretty excited for my 5K tomorrow...let's hope my attitude stays positive and I get a good sleep tonight!!!

day 289

How about them Longhorns!!!!! :)
And now it's time for a victory lap!
Happy trails,
Jessy
ps~thanks for the sweatshirt. you are the best, ever!

Friday, October 15, 2010

day 288

A 2.5 mile run. On the treadmill. I have such a love/hate relationship with that thing!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 288

I was torn about whether or not to run this morning because I felt like I should get in another run before the 5K, but I also don't want to hurt my knee again before then. So, I compromised and did a shorter run of about 2 miles this morning. So far, my knee is feeling fine! I'm nervous for Sunday though...how many 5K's is this? You'd think I'd be over getting nervous at this point. :)

Thursday, October 14, 2010

day 287

What a great walk with the kids this afternoon. We found so many leaves to crunch in! They were literally thigh deep on the kids!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 287

A naptime treadmill walk again...I finished The Help and LOVED it!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

day 286

Walkin' with the munchkins!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 286

With my 5K coming up Sunday, I figured I better get back to running again. My right knee is feeling pretty good for the most part; I'm just afraid to flare it up again! I went out this morning and ran 2.9 miles in 30:32. It was definitely one of those runs that I had to constantly keep mentally pushing myself! My knee is hurting a little bit today, but I think some ice and Ibuprofen should hopefully do the trick!

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

day 285

I can't think of a better way to start a "date" with my love than by going for a walk! And the perfect way to finish it (get your mind out of the gutter!)? By enjoying each other's company over a bowl of hummus!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 285

Just a repeat of yesterday!

Monday, October 11, 2010

day 284

Right as I hopped on the treadmill to run Greg woke up. That boy is a distraction! So as we caught up on the happenings of life I walked. I ended up walking a mile then running a mile and a half to finish off my 30 minutes. Not exactly what I had planned, but unexpected and nice.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 284

Does walking around HyVee pushing the car cart and wearing Jude count? :) Okay, okay...I didn't think so! :) I continued reading my book The Help by Kathryn Stockett and walked on the treadmill while the boys napped! Oh, and the book is wonderful...you should definitely put it at the top of your to-read list!

Sunday, October 10, 2010

Day 283

Oh man, it was an EARLY morning because my flight left Portland at 5:45 a.m., but I'm home! After a nap, I felt a little more human and we all went for a walk after dinner. The fall colors on our street are even richer and more beautiful than when I left!!

day 283

I thought about running today, but decided that the 5 crummy hours of sleep I got last night weren't helping my situation so I walked. Did a speed of 4.2 with an incline of 4. Haven't walked that since the very beginning of this challenge. I also decided it was time to start doing my "core strengthening/8 minute abs" video again as well as doing some with the free weights. I'm feeling burnt out with running/walking! Blarg.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Saturday, October 9, 2010

day 282

Today was just gorgeous! We enjoyed a family walk through Wilderness Park.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 282

My mom and I walked several times around the Suite Level of the Rose Quarter during a 30 minute break during Women of Faith! It was nice to get some movement in after sitting a lot of the day...and of course it was nice to have such wonderful company! :)

Friday, October 8, 2010

day 281

Another walk with the kids. We saw a beautiful hawk while we were out. I'm pretty sure the hawk was scoping out Tortilla (our little rat terrier) to see if she would make a tasty supper. Yikes!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 281

Despite my late arrival in Portland, I still woke up early. I thought'd be nice to get some time with my Dad since most of my weekend will be spent at Women of Faith with my Mom. So, we went out for a walk/run together and had a good conversation. It was nice to spend some time with him and of course it's beautiful there!

Thursday, October 7, 2010

day 280

I needed the change of pace today brought! Leah & I went for a walk around Holmes Lake. It was absolutely gorgeous out. The water was so still, the air so cool, and the sunset so beautiful. Looking across the colorful treetops from the top of the dam was just gorgeous. I wish I would have taken my camera on the walk, but didn't get a picture until we were back at the car and it was almost dark. Thanks Leah for a great walk!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 280

I'm leaving for the lovely Pacific Northwest today to go to Women of Faith with my mama! I'm looking so forward to it. I got outside early for a run so I could have it out of the way before this long day. Besides, your suggestion to sip coffee and read my book during my 2 hour layover in Denver sounds way better than walking around pulling a suitcase behind me!! I went a little earlier this morning because Dax requested I have breakfast with them. :) It was dark and I'm having some pain in my right knee...uh oh! I have achy knees on occasion (though it's usually my left one) but I don't usually notice any pain during running...today I felt it. :( I did just over 2 miles in 22:30.
Oh, I also signed up for the Governer's Cup 5K on October 17th!

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

day 279

Yeah, here it is Wednesday, a day I wanted to run. I never realized how much poor eating & sleeping habits can sabotage my running. I'm just having a really hard time running this week. Another walk today. Kind of disappointing after getting three good runs in last week!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 279

Since this was my last evening at home before my trip, we picnicked, walked, and got ice cream over on East Campus. It was the perfect evening with my guys!! Oh, and pushing the Sit n' Stand stroller with all 3 boys on it for 30 minutes, is no joke! Good thing I burned those extra calories just to put them back in me with Dairy Store ice cream!!! :)

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

day 278

I really need to get more sleep. Another walk today.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 278

It was nice to stay snuggled up in bed this morning, but then I had to face the treadmill during naptime! I did 3 miles in 29:52, and I sure do love to see the calorie total hit nearly 500!! Nice!

Monday, October 4, 2010

day 277

Well, I had high hopes to run M,W,F this week. But after a busy weekend a run just didn't happen. A walk for me today.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 277

My exact words as I rolled out of bed this morning..."I must be insane!" It got into the 30s last night, but I got outside for my first morning run of the week. My desire to have my 30 minutes out of the way apparently outweighed the fact that it was freezing outside and I had a very interrupted night of sleep...like I said, "I must be insane!" But of course the cold never lasts long when you're running and I fully plan on enjoying my caffeinated beverages today...and I'll just go to bed earlier tonight. :) I did 2.5 miles in 25:23.
Happy Monday!

Sunday, October 3, 2010

day 276

Lots of Greg's family is in town this weekend to celebrate his Grandma's birthday. There has been a whole lot of eating happening and not a lot of exercise. It's tough getting in 30 minute during these times. Managed to get in a walk with the kids, but my heart rate wasn't very elevated. Oh well, at least I was moving!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 276

Craig and I swapped roles today...I worked a full day outside of the home, and he stayed home with the boys. I think we all had a long day and were ready to get out of the house to enjoy a nice walk together as a family!

Saturday, October 2, 2010

day 275

A great day for a fall walk!
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 275

We went on a wonderful long family walk through the park and the neighborhood with a stop off at the playground per the boys' request. :) It was a beautiful Fall evening and I'm so excited to see the trees on our street starting to change. Our street looks AWESOME in October!!

Friday, October 1, 2010

day 274

3 miles, 31:41.
Happy trails,
Jessy

Day 274

Wow! I can't believe it's October! I think if I'm going to keep going with these morning runs, which I fully plan on doing, I'm going to need to get some mittens and something to cover my ears! Brrrrrr!! Might look into that this weekend!
This morning (run # 3 for the week!), Noel joined me and I asked her to pick the route because, like I mentioned before, I like to mix it up! I forgot to set my watch when we started so this was one of those runs that I just didn't worry about time, which is always nice! :)
